About Us

We are residents of Mt Tomah and Berambing whose homes and properties were on fire at 4pm 15 December 2019 when the RFS sent us an emergency warning about their escaped strategic backburn. At this time, we were engulfed by the RFS fire and were fighting to save our lives and property.

We are one small group of people among thousands who had the same experience in that deadly December 2019 across NSW.

We are still On Fire for change to make our communities safer and better prepared for the next fire.

The group has standing at the upcoming Special Coronial hearing on the NSW Bushfires starting on 15 May 2023 where the Mt Wilson Backburn will be investigated as part of the final Stage 2 hearings into Backburning.

Our group is run entirely voluntarily and would like to thank the following people for their generous pro bono assistance:

Legal

Hon. Adam Searle Barrister

Roderick Storie Solicitors

Expert Witnesses

Dr Terry Kirkpatrick (Trauma Phycologist)

Nicholas Gellie (Fire and Ecology)

We would also like to thank all of the experts, RFS volunteers and affected residents who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes over the past 3 1/2 years.

Spokespeople for the group: Jochen Spencer & Kooryn Sheaves
